DESCRIPTION:Early attachment injuries forge a neurophysiological template of self and impact affect regulation\, relational functioning\, and distort one’s internal working model(s). The heart of this training addresses the reparation of insecure attachment. The curriculum weaves a framework that draws upon diverse theoretical and conceptual understandings from: attachment theory\, somatic psychotherapy\, trauma studies\, affect regulation and regulation theory\, interpersonal neurobiology\, interpersonal/relational psychoanalytic practice\, and deepening connections to the sentient world.  \n

SUMMARY:Working with Children: Getting comfortable with different levels of risk
DESCRIPTION:WORKING WITH CHILDREN IS RARELY BLACK & WHITE\nWorking with children involves several risk factors. As a counsellor\, how prepared and equipped are you to handle these situations? \nWhen children or their parents seek counselling for on their behalf\, things are rarely black and white. Counsellors are often hesitant or sensitive to the complexities of these situations due to existing regulations\, the risk of complaints\, or a potential lawsuit. It doesn’t have to be that way. \nThis workshop will prepare counsellors to accurately identify red flags as well as evaluate\, and manage risk while providing the best care their young clients need.  \nHow this workshop will help your practice: \n\nUnderstanding grey areas surrounding consent and identifying your risk tolerance level\nAsking the right questions and identifying red flags\nSpotting nuances when children seek counselling for themselves or when parents seek counselling for their children\nQuantifying risks\nConducting a thorough background evaluation\n\nABOUT THE PRESENTER:\nJohn-Paul is an accredited family law arbitrator\, family law mediator and parenting coordinator. Over an illustrious 25-year career\, he has specialised in law and procedural reform\, public legal education\, children’s rights and involvement in justice processes\, the impact of parental conflict on children\, access to family justice\, and the psychological aspects of relationship breakdown and parenting after separation. John-Paul is presently a member of the ADR Institute of Canada\, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts\, and Family Mediation Canada. He is a former fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers and was appointed Queen’s Counsel\, now King’s Counsel\, in 2019. \nCandice Alder is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with nearly 20 years of therapeutic experience with families\, children\, and youth. Candice is a former child protection worker in BC\, and has also worked with high-risk children and families in non-profit and public education settings.
