SUMMARY:Practicum in a Box: a toolkit for setting up a practicum site
DESCRIPTION: \nJoin us for this panel discussion workshop\, designed for clinics\, group practices\, and nonprofits who want to host counselling practicum students but feel overwhelmed by the logistics\, liability\, and supervision demands. Together\, we will walk through a clear\, streamlined path to setting up a practicum site.\n \nIn this session\, we’ll cover:\n\nWhy BCACC created this resource\nHow it can help you address:\n\nBCACC registration requirements\nMeeting university requirements\nSupervision structures\nPolicies and procedures\nEthics and the student learning journey\nAddressing documentation\nFinding a fee structure that fits your clinic\n\n\n\n\nThe goal is for you to leave with a grounded sense of what is truly essential and what is optional in setting up a practicum site.\n\n \nYou’ll also get access to a robust set of resources\, including supervision contracts\, checklists\, evaluation rubrics\, learning plan templates\, interview questions\, consent forms\, and practice management checklists\, so that creating and sustaining a practicum placement is as simple as possible for you and as meaningful as possible for the student.\n \n\nThis session is led by:\nJane Beaumont\n\n\nJane Beaumont\, MC\, RCC-ACS\, is the Director of Clinical Practice at the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors\, where she leads initiatives that support safe\, ethical\, and effective counselling practice across the province. With over 25 years of experience in community mental health\, eating disorders\, school counselling\, substance use\, and private practice\, she now focuses primarily on providing clinical supervision\, consultation\, and education for counsellors and supervisors. Jane is trained in DBT\, EPI\, EFFT\, Narrative Therapy and draws on an integrated\, and deeply relational approach and has written and taught extensively on clinical supervision and the development of the psychotherapist\, including BCACC offerings on supervision through the career span. \nFor this toolkit\, Jane led the project in her role at BCACC\, guiding its development and ensuring alignment with BCACC standards and the Entry-to-Practice Competency Profile. \n\nJanine Orlando\nDr. Janine Orlando\, Ph.D.\, RCC-ACS\, is the Founder and Director of Magnolia Health and Wellness and the Canadian Therapist Network Inc.\, and serves on the Board of Directors for the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). She brings nearly 30 years of experience in education and counselling\, having worked as both a school counsellor and teacher across multiple Lower Mainland districts\, as well as in private practice. Trained in EMDR and somatic attachment psychotherapy and currently studying Internal Family Systems (IFS)\, she supports clients with trauma and complex mental health concerns through an integrative\, evidence-informed lens. Since establishing her private practice in 2004\, Dr. Orlando has supported individuals through a wide range of personal and mental health challenges and currently teaches counselling theory and practice as a sessional professor in the School Counselling course within the Master of Education program at Simon Fraser University. She has also served as Vice President of a Lower Mainland teachers’ association\, advocating for educator well-being and healthy school environments. Janine specializes in holistic wellness\, helping people cultivate balance across mental\, physical\, emotional\, and spiritual domains. \n\nFor this toolkit\, Janine contributed as a member of the initial working group that shaped the resource. \n\nSusie Lang-Gould\n\nDr. Susie Lang-Gould is the Director of Peace Portal Counselling Centre\, where she serves as a leader\, counsellor\, supervisor\, parent consultant\, and speaker. She holds a PhD and a Master’s of Arts in Psychology from Fielding University\, as well as a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS) in good standing with BCACC. With over 25 years of experience\, she has worked in private practice\, public and independent schools\, and within the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Susie has written documents for teachers and clinicians and has served on the BCACC supervision committee for 8 years\, assisting with the regulation of supervisors and the implementation of Supervision or Supervisors. Providing opportunities for professional supervision has been a passion of hers\, as she knows its significance for the lifelong development of clinicians\, both personally and professionally. \nFor this toolkit\, Susie’s practicum site participated in the trial and evaluation process\, helping to test and refine the resource in real-world practice.
