SUMMARY:Countertransference: Friend or Foe?
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThis workshop explores countertransference as an inevitable and clinically useful aspect of counselling work.  \nWe’ll examine classic and contemporary understandings of countertransference and how it shows somatically\, emotionally\, relationally\, and behaviorally in both individual and group contexts.  \nAttention will be given to how countertransference can emerge differently across roles\, relational positions\, and group dynamics\, and how it can be used as a source of clinical information rather than something to be avoided or shut down.  \nWhy it’s important \nCountertransference is one of the primary instruments of clinical work — yet it’s often under-discussed\, pathologized\, or addressed only when something has gone wrong. Developing awareness of countertransference supports ethical practice\, strengthens therapeutic alliances\, and helps counsellors work more effectively with complexity\, intensity\, and rupture.  \nWho it’s suited for  \nThis workshop is well-suited for counsellors\, clinical supervisors\, and advanced trainees across modalities\, given the pervasive role of countertransference in therapeutic relationships.  \nWhat you’ll walk away with: \n\nGreater ease and confidence in talking about countertransference in clinical supervision A\nA clearer\, normalized understanding of countertransference \nIncreased awareness of their own countertransference signals \nPractical ways to work with countertransference rather than against it

SUMMARY:Marketing That Feels Like You: The Seven Fundamentals for Counsellors
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nIf you’re reading this\, you’re likely a counsellor who feels conflicted about marketing. Maybe you avoid it altogether. Maybe you’ve tried it and it felt awful. Maybe you’re doing it but it doesn’t feel like you. \nHere’s the thing:\nThe marketplace is crowded. Everyone is promoting themselves all the time. \nThe noise is overwhelming\, for you and for the people trying to find you. Most of what we’ve been taught about marketing feels pushy\, manipulative\, or deeply uncomfortable. \nSo we resist it. We avoid it. We do nothing. And the clients who need us most can’t find us. \nThis two-part workshop is for counsellors who want to cut through that noise and be findable—without scripts\, without pressure\, without selling out.

SUMMARY:2026 Regional Roadshow: Kelowna
DESCRIPTION: \nGet all the details\n\n\n\nDAY 1\nFull Day Workshop\nBeyond the Wound: Implementing Effective Trauma Interventions \nPsychological trauma impacts between 60 and 76% of Canadians\, according to the Canadian Psychological Association and Health Canada. Of those\, approximately 9% will develop PTSD\, though many others will have their trauma manifest as other mental health disorders\, such as depression and anxiety. Such statistics highlight that the impact of trauma is pervasive\, multifaceted\, varied\, and often lasts a lifetime\, which creates complexity for assessors and treatment providers. \nIn this workshop: \n> Dr. Carissa Muth will begin by providing a foundation based on the neuroscience of trauma\, including current theories on the etiology of PTSD and Complex PTSD. \n> Building on this understanding\, the workshop will provide an overview of assessing trauma\, including differential diagnoses\, which is imperative to implementing effective treatments. \n> Rather than defaulting to a single treatment method whenever a client presents with trauma\, this workshop will guide participants in matching evidence-based treatment methods with presentations of trauma. \n> Primarily\, this workshop will present a staged approach to addressing trauma that includes the integration of therapeutic methods such as narrative therapy\, CBT\, DBT skills\, and positive psychology. \nPresenter: Dr Carissa Muth \, PsyD\, RPsych \nEvening Social Reception\nJoin us for a casual evening following the first full day of learning. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow RCCs from across your region. Deepen professional relationships\, share insights from the day’s learning\, and build connections within BC’s mental health community. \nDAY 2\nStakeholder Roundtable Discussion\nThis is where your voice can shape regional mental health policy. \nJoin a this dialogue with government officials\, service partners\, health authority representatives\, and fellow practitioners to surface barriers\, discuss emerging client needs\, and co-create solutions that reflect front-line realities. \n1/2 Day Workshop\nFrom Disruption to Dialogue: Strengthening Relationships After Adverse Events \nEvery year\, the risk of adverse environmental events such as fires and floods is increasing\, with the Okanagan region listed as one of the highest-risk areas in Canada for wildfires. \nWhile separate and distinct\, the mental health crises impacting Canadians from the pervasiveness of opioids and environmental stressors are significantly interrelated. These mental health crises take a toll not only on the individual struggling with their mental health but also on their family\, friends\, and communities. Whether directly or indirectly\, clinical counsellors likely encounter those impacted by opioids or the impact of environmental traumas on a regular basis. \nIn this workshop\, Dr. Carissa Muth will present an overview of the neuropsychological factors involved in both trauma and addiction and highlight the numerous contributing components involved in the development and treatment of substance use. This will include the impact of stressors\, such as the impact of adverse environmental events\, on risk for substance use and overall wellbeing. Grounded in the science of addictions\, this workshop will then provide a framework for treating both individuals struggling with substance use as well as their support systems. \nPresenter: Dr Carissa Muth \, PsyD\, RPsych

SUMMARY:AI in Clinical Practice: Duty of Care in the Age of Intelligent Tools
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence is rapidly entering the mental health landscape – through documentation tools\, chatbots\, clinical decision supports\, and everyday productivity platforms.  While these technologies offer potential benefits\, they also introduce significant ethical\, legal\, and professional risks.  Many clinical counsellors are already using or considering AI tools\, often without a clear understanding on what is appropriate\, safe\, or responsible. \nThis 2-hour webinar provides clinical counsellors with a practical\, ethics-focused framework for the responsible use of AI in clinical practice.  Grounded in professional codes of ethics\, privacy obligations\, and emerging AI governance standards\, the session will help participants understand how AI changes their duty of care – and what responsible use actually looks like in day-to-day clinical work. \nBy the end of the webinar\, you will be able to: \n\nUnderstand common AI tools and their emerging role in clinical counselling.\nIdentify key ethical\, legal\, and professional risks associated with AI use.\nApply and ethics-based lens to your AI decision-making.\nImplement practical safeguards for confidentiality\, consent\, and documentation.

SUMMARY:Duty to Report: Responsibilities and Pathways
DESCRIPTION:Counsellors are often caught between the requirement to report to protective agencies and our desire to maintain therapeutic alliance and engagement in counselling. Navigating that tension will be explored and processes highlighted that may protect the client’s participation in therapy. \nThis workshop will give an overview of the legislative responsibilities for reporting when a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of harm. The counsellor’s role in the reporting process will be outlined\, and practical tips provided that may increase the effectiveness of a report and enhance safety of vulnerable persons in the process of investigation. \nThis workshop is of particular relevance for counsellors working with children\, youth and families
