SUMMARY:Regional Roadshow Prince George
DESCRIPTION: \nGet all the details\n\n\n\nDAY 1\nFull Day Workshop\nBeyond the Wound: Implementing Effective Trauma Interventions \nPsychological trauma impacts between 60 and 76% of Canadians\, according to the Canadian Psychological Association and Health Canada. Of those\, approximately 9% will develop PTSD\, though many others will have their trauma manifest as other mental health disorders\, such as depression and anxiety. Such statistics highlight that the impact of trauma is pervasive\, multifaceted\, varied\, and often lasts a lifetime\, which creates complexity for assessors and treatment providers. \nIn this workshop: \n> Dr. Carissa Muth will begin by providing a foundation based on the neuroscience of trauma\, including current theories on the etiology of PTSD and Complex PTSD. \n> Building on this understanding\, the workshop will provide an overview of assessing trauma\, including differential diagnoses\, which is imperative to implementing effective treatments. \n> Rather than defaulting to a single treatment method whenever a client presents with trauma\, this workshop will guide participants in matching evidence-based treatment methods with presentations of trauma. \n> Primarily\, this workshop will present a staged approach to addressing trauma that includes the integration of therapeutic methods such as narrative therapy\, CBT\, DBT skills\, and positive psychology. \nPresenter: Dr Carissa Muth \, PsyD\, RPsych \nEvening Social Reception\nJoin us for a casual evening following the first full day of learning. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow RCCs from across your region. Deepen professional relationships\, share insights from the day’s learning\, and build connections within BC’s mental health community. \nDAY 2\nStakeholder Roundtable Discussion\nThis is where your voice can shape regional mental health policy. \nJoin a this dialogue with government officials\, service partners\, health authority representatives\, and fellow practitioners to surface barriers\, discuss emerging client needs\, and co-create solutions that reflect front-line realities. \n1/2 Day Workshop\nThrough an Indigenous Lens \nProviding Indigenous Frameworks to create safety for Indigenous clients\, ways to work with clients while considering the seven generations before and the seven generations to come. Strength-based practices\, land-based healing. Effective communication. What trauma stems from\, and how to respond to clients who have been impacted by trauma. Intergenerational trauma and where it comes from\, and how it shows up in the body.

SUMMARY:When Sleep Isn't Simple: Evidence-Based Tools for Helping Clients Sleep Better
DESCRIPTION:Sleep difficulties don’t just affect your clients at night.\nThey can shape how clients show up in the counselling session.\nMany clients struggle with sleep\, yet counsellors may be unsure about how to move beyond basic sleep-hygiene recommendations. Drawing on 20 years of counselling experience\, graduate training in neuroscience\, and specialized training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)\, Theresa brings together sleep science\, sleep hygiene\, selected CBT-I approaches\, and an understanding of the anxiety–sleep cycle to offer practical tools for helping clients sleep better.\n \nThis clinically focused workshop will explore the neuroscience of sleep\, what happens when sleep becomes disrupted\, and the factors that contribute to and maintain sleep difficulties.\n \nWe will also touch on how disrupted or insufficient sleep can affect clients’ mood\, attention\, emotional regulation\, cognitive functioning\, and ability to engage meaningfully in the counselling process.\n \nWe’ll explore:\n\nThe neuroscience of sleep and what happens when sleep becomes disrupted\nFactors that contribute to and maintain sleep difficulties\nThe impact of poor sleep on daytime functioning and the counselling process\nThe anxiety–sleep cycle and how worry\, arousal\, and sleep-related behaviours can perpetuate sleep problems\nPractical sleep-hygiene strategies and selected evidence-informed CBT-I approaches that can be integrated into counselling practice\nHow sleep intersects with anxiety\, trauma\, neurodiversity\, life transitions\, and perimenopause and menopause\nWhen additional assessment\, adaptation\, or referral may be appropriate\n\nYou’ll leave with strategies and resources to use immediately with clients\, to help them to better understand and improve their sleep\, while also recognizing how sleep may be influencing the broader therapeutic work.\n \n
