Remembering Joan Campbell

A message from BCACC President, Shirley Halliday

Dear Members,

In my role as President, I have the heartfelt duty to share sad news with you about a member, friend, and colleague, who has contributed a tremendous amount to the Association in her volunteer work on committees, the Board, and various leadership positions, including being the immediate past President of BCACC.

Joan Campbell passed away peacefully on Friday, September 17th.  She went to sleep, and did not wake up; she was with family and caregivers, deeply loved and cared for.

Some members may not have known Joan personally, and some members will have worked with her on various committees and working groups over the years and will know of and remember her laughter, hard work, quiet steadiness, kindness, and willingness to do what needed to be done.  She leaves us with lots of good and pleasant memories – I hope your heart is touched by whatever those might be for you as you recall her.

Joan’s loving husband Don has shared with me that the family will have a private family celebration, and at some future date, a public celebration of life will be organized. I will share those details with you when I have them.

I anticipate that we collectively will determine the most appropriate way for the Association to commemorate Joan’s passing and to honour her tremendous contributions to BCACC.

Today, I leave you with this short video clip of Joan. In it, her warmth and approachability are on full display as she shares in her own words her experience of volunteering with BCACC.

With gratitude,

Shirley Halliday
