About Maureen
I’m an advocate for your right to persevere through adversity, heal from trauma, experience healthier relationships with family and friends, and live a more satisfying, and sustainable life.
I work to help you identify changes that need to happen for you now, and support you to develop a liveable plan for those changes.
Some initial questions we’ll try to answer include:
How will your life be different if this therapy experience is helpful to you?
What will you notice first about your life that’s different?
Who else might notice this change?
How will you feel about yourself (or your child, your spouse/partner) once this change is made? How does that compare with how you feel now?
As both a counsellor and a clinical supervisor I’ve been supporting people to adopt healthier ways of dealing with problems, conflict, addiction, or ongoing adversity (chronic illness, separation and divorce, job loss or change, death in the family, mental illness).
I’ve worked for 17 years as a family and relationship counsellor. I also work with people who’ve suffered traumatic losses, injuries, and illnesses. I’ve helped people overcome negative impacts of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. So much of my work to date has been devoted to helping people heal from the impacts of loss and trauma by supporting them to find their personal strengths, assert their needs with others while setting important boundaries and limits that ensure healthier, more rewarding relationships. I’ve trained in both the US and Canada in evidence-based and relational/experiential models of therapy including CBT, ACT, Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). I’m a certified ADHD coach and an approved service provider for families with autistic children. I consider myself an LGBTQIA2S+ ally, as I work with and receive clinical trainings specific to supporting these members of my community. I work with all types of families, at many different stages of life, including new parents, parents with teens, single parents, caregivers (foster parents) and parents seeking help to successfully launch their adult children. I also work with individuals and couples at midlife, facing unexpected changes with careers, health problems, and navigating changes in relationships with spouses and adult children or grandchildren.
I support people to find the courage they need to overcome obstacles, make difficult life decisions, and choose more productive paths for themselves.
I strive to create a supportive atmosphere that allows people to open up about their private pain, their fears, and their doubts without judgement. I’m committed to helping people transform intense feelings of anger, frustration, helplessness, powerlessness and sadness into more life-affirming experiences of themselves and their lives.
