Regulated Membership Eligibility
Currently living in Canada
To apply, you must be living in Canada and be able to provide a Canadian address on your application. If you do not have a Canadian address, your application will not be reviewed.
A master’s degree relevant to the area of clinical counselling/psychotherapy
To become an RCC, you must have a master’s degree in clinical counselling, psychotherapy, or a relevant to the area that prepares you for the practice of clinical counselling/psychotherapy.
Your official master’s degree transcript must show the date your degree was granted. BCACC does not accept letters of completion.
Your degree(s) must also be completed at a recognized institution (in Canada, this means it is an institution that is government-approved or that is an authorized degree-granting institution).
If you were educated outside of Canada, your degree(s) will need to be evaluated by a member agency of the Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada.

Completed courses matching BCACC’s six core topic areas
You will need to complete courses that meet BCACC’s six core topic area requirements:
- Developmental Psychology across the lifespan OR Psychopathology
- Counselling Theories OR Personality Theories
- Group Therapy Theory & Practice
- Family Therapy Theory & Practice
- Basic Research Design
- Professional Ethics in Counselling/Psychotherapy
Your instructors, program staff, or academic advisors are best positioned to determine whether a course and its content meet BCACC’s six core topic areas. View page 6 of the Application Guidebook (download below) for full details.
Completed at least 100 hours of Clinical Supervision + References
You will need to complete at least 100 hours of clinical supervision. Of these 100 hours, at least 25 hours must be through direct supervision activities. You must provide at least 2 references for your application.
Your references can complete an online form to report the number of hours of clinical supervision they completed with you or provide details as a colleague reference.

Meets BCACC’s English language requirements
All applicants looking to become an RCC must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency. You can provide proof of your proficiency through one of these options:
- Your Degree – The primary language of instruction when completing your master’s degree was English
- Regulatory Organization – You are registered with another Canadian counselling or psychotherapy regulatory body that can confirm you meet the English language requirements
- English Test – BCACC accepts IELTS, TOEFL, and CELPIP test results (see page 9 of the Application Guidebook for more information)
