Frequently Asked Questions
Can I include “RCC” as part of any title or phrase to represent myself as a future RCC while applying for membership with BCACC?
No, you cannot use the BCACC-trademarked title RCC to identify yourself until you have been approved for Full Registered Membership and issued the RCC designation by BCACC. Please note that BCACC advises applicants against using unrecognized titles or designations, including but not limited to “Pre-RCC, RCC-Qualifying, RCC-Q, RCC Candidate, and RCC Applicant, etc. Using such titles and/or designations is misleading and puts the public at risk. Instead, applicants waiting to receive their RCC designation from BCACC are encouraged to use the credentials they received upon graduating their degree programs (i.e. MA, MEd, PhD, etc.)
Can I complete my online application before my master’s degree has been granted to me?
No. You may start an online application before you graduate but to complete it you will need to know the date your master’s degree was awarded or granted to you. Once you receive the official date your degree has been granted, please ensure your school sends an official transcript with this date to BCACC.
Can you tell me if I meet the eligibility criteria before I apply?
No. Applications are reviewed once a complete application is received. Course work is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. When that evaluation is complete, if you need coursework, we will advise you by email and your file will remain open while you complete any outstanding requirements.
What if I don’t have enough clinical supervision hours documented on BCACC Clinical Reference forms?
You will need to arrange for additional clinical supervision in order to meet the BCACC membership application requirements. For more information about the required clinical supervision hours, please see the Eligibility page.
Can I apply for membership if I live outside of Canada?
No, all applicants must be living in Canada and be able to provide a Canadian address on their application to be eligible for membership with BCACC.
Why is there a requirement for Canadian residency when I start my online application for BCACC membership?
BCACC receives many applications from individuals who are in the process of immigrating to Canada or considering relocation to Canada. In some cases, applicants are ultimately unable to relocate or obtain the authorization required to reside and work in Canada, which means their applications cannot be completed.
As a result, BCACC’s policy is to proceed with applications once applicants are able to demonstrate that they are authorized to reside and work in Canada and are in a position to complete the registration process.
Once you are able to provide a Canadian address and documentation confirming your permanent residency, work authorization, or other authorization to reside and work in Canada, we would be pleased to move your application forward.
How long does the application process take?
A typical application may take up to 6 months from start to finish depending on how long it takes an applicant to provide the required documentation, for BCACC staff to review a submitted application, and for the applicant to complete the final steps before enrolling as a BCACC member.
Can I expedite my application? I have a job offer.
No. To be fair to all applicants, we review and process documents and applications in the order that they are received.
I want to provide more information to support my application. Where do I send my documents?
You can email your PDF documentation to [email protected] or you can mail your documents to our office at 109 – 1034 Johnson Street, Victoria, BC, Canada V8V 3N7
I’ve ordered documents for my application but when I log in, I don’t see them in my file. What should I do?
If you’ve ordered documents for your application and you do not yet see your documents in your file, please contact the issuer of the document, or allow a minimum of 6-8 weeks for us to receive, review and add it to your file.
I’m not ready to apply but I want to start ordering supporting documentation to your office. Can I do this?
Yes. We can receive and keep documents, such as transcripts or references, on file for up to 3 years. When you submit an online application, we will add these documents to your file.
Can I transfer my registration with a college or other organization to the BCACC?
BCACC does not have a registration transfer agreement in place with other regulatory bodies or associations. The process detailed on the Apply Now page is the process that you would follow to apply for membership.
As a BCACC Student Member will my application fee be waived?
Yes, as a benefit of your membership with us, if you are an approved BCACC Student Member, your application fee for registered membership will be waived. However, you are still responsible for payments related to any necessary documents for your file assessment, your Criminal Record Check, and your Membership Enrollment.
I want to check that the courses I plan to take will meet the membership eligibility criteria. Can you review my coursework before I submit my application?
No, BCACC does not review coursework prior to receiving a complete application package that includes official transcripts. Once an application is submitted, BCACC will identify any gaps in coursework that would need to be addressed before determining that the applicant meets the eligibility criteria.
I need a letter from BCACC to enroll in extra coursework so I can meet BCACC’s six core topic areas. How can I get that letter from BCACC?
Once you have completed the online application, paid the application fee, and submitted all the relevant documents to support your membership application, BCACC staff will review your submitted application package and provide you with feedback that identifies any missing information you must provide or coursework that you must complete to meet the six core topic areas.
You can share this feedback with the educational institution, and they will determine if you must submit a formal letter from BCACC to enroll in the additional coursework.
I want to apply to a school/program located outside of Canada. Will my out-of-country school/program be acceptable for RCC membership?
BCACC cannot confirm the suitability of a school, program of study, or course offered outside of Canada prior to the applicant’s completion of their program. Staff can only provide feedback once an applicant has completed the program and submitted a complete application package. Please see the International RCC Applicants page for information about how your credentials will be assessed by BCACC.
I’m a returning (former) member, do I have to reapply?
If you are a former BCACC registered member, please email [email protected] to request a membership reinstatement package.
