About Nan
My counselling role with you takes place within a confidential and collaborative relationship. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches specifically geared to your needs and I work in consultation with you to establish goals and strategies that we both agree will be helpful and beneficial. I believe that you have your own unique strengths and abilities and self-knowledge and that with support and guidance you can develop skills needed to address your current concerns.
My approach takes into account that as human beings most of us at some point need a little assistance to work through some of the challenges that life throws our way. Sometimes we develop unhealthy and negative thought patterns and resulting behaviors that can leave us with feelings of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. These feelings can further manifest as relationship problems, unhealthy coping mechanisms or a general sense of dissatisfaction and lack of meaning.
You may find yourself feeling overwhelmed by situational life changes that you feel are out of your control such as parenting issues, caregiver fatigue, work-related problems including bullying. You may be in an abusive relationship or dealing with past trauma. My approach with you is client centered and may include some or all of the following: cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); person centered therapy, solution focused therapy, . I also use visualization, mindfulness, self-compassion theories to assist you to lean into the changes that you wish to make in your life.
My goal in working with you is to partner together to increase your resilience and your overall belief in your ability to face each challenge in your life as it arises. I welcome clients from a diversity of cultures, religions, ethnic, gender and sexual backgrounds. Based on our experiences and cultural backgrounds, we have a variety ways of processing information and communicating.
My hope always is that our relationship will be a shared learning opportunity for both of us.
