About Heather
I work from a relational and experiential perspective, integrating interventions and tools from various modalities including: ADEP, somatic and Emotion-Focused therapy, with a trauma-informed lens.
I see my role as walking along beside you through your journey. Supporting and gently challenging your understanding and narrative for your life to help you gain further insight and understanding into yourself.
I identify as a cis-gender woman with mixed and settler ancestry. I work affirmatively with neurodiverse folks and am invested in adjusting my counselling process to meet the unique needs of individuals on the ASD spectrum and with ADHD, FASD, OCD and other cognitive/behavioural diagnoses.
My background includes years of working with youth, children, and families, and supporting survivors of abuse and trauma in ways that create safety through validation and removing shame. I have additional experience with addiction including treatment support and harm-reduction. I love working with youth as they begin to assert themselves and establish their identity, learning coping strategies, navigating relationships , and strengthen communication. In addition I have experience working in remote and isolated communities in Northern BC.
I have completed additional training to support my work with trauma including Level I EMDR and Level I training in Observed and Experiential Integration (OEI) which are both evidence-based training for the treatment of complex trauma and PTSD.
I have also taken courses in Grief and Loss, including somatic work, Dialectal Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT-I/EFT-C) for Individuals and Couples.
I have also completed my training and am registered as an Associate Mediator with Mediate BC. As well I am a society member, roster member and board member with BC Hear The Child Society as a report writer for children’s voices.
I am registered with CVAP, ICBC, and FNHA to provide services through these programs.
