About Caprial
Welcome! My name is Caprial, pronounced kuh-pree-ul. I am a Registered Clinical Counselor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
A bit about me:
I am a second-generation Hong Kong settler living, working, and playing on the sacred, stolen, and ancestral territories of thesacred, stolen, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. I was born and raised in Vancouver.
As the daughter of low-income immigrants, I intimately understand the complexities of navigating bicultural expectations and growing up with limited resources. I bring firsthand experience that allows me to deeply grasp the complexity and importance of incorporating an intersectional framework. Growing up, I rarely encountered BIPOC representation, making it more meaningful for me today to serve as a woman of colour counsellor.
I have consistently sought roles in the helping profession that involve supporting others. Over nine years, I have gained extensive experience working with children with disabilities and have provided various forms of support to families and individuals with a wide range of mental health needs. Additionally, I have significant experience working with the DTES population. My strong passion for social justice advocacy continues to drive my work.
How can I help you?
I aim to work together with clients, using a trauma-informed, social justice-oriented approach and intersectional framework. My goal is to understand their perspective and meet them where they are through a client-centred approach.
In our sessions, I use an integrative therapeutic approach, such as drawing from narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy and EMDR. I believe in finding the best fit for each client’s unique needs and preferences.
A few of my favourite things
In my spare time, you can likely find me trying out the newest dessert, ice cream, and bubble tea shops, watching the newest Disney movies, or rewatching The Simpsons episodes.
