About David

Hi there. I understand that selecting a counsellor online is not easy. Here’s a bit about me, and if you want to connect, then shoot me an email. We can easily set up a free phone consultation.

I bring a genuine, warm, and compassionate presence to my work that is grounded in real-world experience and backed by evidence-based practice and modern neuroscience. I believe that life’s struggles are made harder by the shutting down and ignoring of important parts of ourselves, and I am driven to see others reach their potential. Whether we are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or career concerns, we can often find understanding, peace, and clarity in reconnecting our heads with our bodies.

This means relearning how to notice our body’s emotional cues, allowing ourselves to fully experience them, and processing them with our minds to apply meaning. Genuineness, confidence, play, compassion, and passion can only reenter our lives when we acknowledge every part of who we are (yes, even the parts that you don’t like much – as it turns out, they are just trying to help you in their own way).

We honour your in-the-moment experience in our sessions, and I am not afraid to take the lead when I think it helpful, or to share my opinions or insights. I find that this helps to keep our progress moving forwards, and can protect against getting bogged down.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, with a research focus in the psychological experiences of career transition. In addition to my experience counselling, instructing, and presenting in non-profit and charity organizations and private practice, I also work as a career coach for the University of British Columbia where I have helped students and alumni to develop their emotional intelligence and align their interests and values with their career decisions.

My employment background is diverse, ranging from working in geology, aviation, and the space industry (with a stop in information technology along the way). When I found counselling, I knew I was home. I hope that my passion for this profession can be of benefit to you.
