About Rachel

For as long as I can remember, I have been both drawn to helping others and fascinated with the field of psychology. These passions led me to the completion of my undergraduate degree in Honours Psychology from McGill University, and then a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology at Simon Fraser University. Since then I have been a member in good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

I have worked in hospital settings with survivors of trauma, at UBC Counselling Services where I did my masters practicum, and at Family Services Employee Assistance Programs where I worked with employees from various professions. I have also worked with physicians through UBC’s Postgraduate Medical Education.

In my work with clients, I take a client centered approach to therapy in that I try to tailor therapy to each client?s individual needs and circumstances. I see my role as helping clients to facilitate change and achieve their goals by drawing on evidence-based therapies that fit with each client and the issue(s) presented. I often draw on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

In my work with couples, my work is based on Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Emotion-Focussed Therapy.
