Research Study on the Lived Experiences of Self-Care
Are you a female psychotherapist between the ages of 40 and 60? We invite you to participate in a vital research study on the lived experiences of self-care.
This qualitative interpretative phenomenological study seeks to understand your unique journey. It involves a single, in-depth interview about your self-care practices. Your participation will help us advance the understudied field of self-care for women, providing valuable insights that can benefit others in your profession and beyond.
Your voice matters. Share your story and contribute to a deeper understanding of this essential topic. Please contact Tracy Larson (PsyD Candidate) at [email protected] to learn more.

Volunteer Counsellors | Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees | Victoria
Counsellors needed for part time, pro bono work! Since 2016 the Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees (http://www.viccir.org/) has provided mental health services to promote the well-being of refugees and immigrants, assist them on their healing journey and promote their integration into our multicultural communities. VICCIR is the only provider of psychological assistance to immigrants and refugees on Vancouver Island who suffer from the effects of trauma to the extent that daily living is compromised. Any immigrant or refugee who is able to access our centres is eligible for service from a registered clinical counsellor. Interpreters are also available when the client does not speak English. All VICCIR counsellors, interpreters and supervisors offer their skills and expertise pro bono.
VICCIR is offering an opportunity for experienced, registered counsellors living in the Greater Victoria area to join our team of counsellors. Regular individual and group supervision is provided to all counsellors and interpreters as well as additional training in intercultural trauma treatment. Volunteer counsellors must have their own liability insurance. Most clients are seen at the VICCIR centre in Victoria. Counselling with VICCIR is part time and can fit with other work or personal commitments

Clients are self-referred, with mild to moderate anxiety, depression, grief, loss, career, and family/relationship challenges. For a full list of our client eligibility and exclusion criteria, please contact us. Clients pay a reduced fee based on household income.
We are a paperless office! We use an easy and convenient online booking, charting and billing service that can be accessed from a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. The program we use (Jane) meets the legal and ethical requirements for maintaining client confidentiality and records.
Counselling space is provided at our head office, at Oak Street and 49th Avenue in Vancouver, BC.
Counsellors frequently work alone, and must be comfortable and competent in doing so. You will be asked to demonstrate your ability to do this during the selection process.
Volunteers must attend monthly case consultation meetings (locations vary, but are all close to Oak).
Volunteer counsellors are also encouraged to seek additional supervision/case consultation through their other counselling related activities or employment.

Volunteer Counsellors | ALS Society of Vancouver | Vancouver
We are a group of Registered Psychologists and Clinical Counsellors throughout the province who volunteer some of our clinical time to provide pro bono treatment services to ALS patients and their families.
ALS is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects the person’s motor neurons that carry messages to the muscles. Typically the person is immobilized or deceased with- in two to five years of initial diagnosis. In the later stages of the disease the person with ALS often cannot speak, swallow or move anything but his/her eyes. However, the mind remains alert. Psychological treatment services are invaluable resources in helping affected individuals cope with the disease and its sequelae.
If you chose to join us in this endeavour, please note that it is not our intention to overwhelm you with referrals. You would always be free to decline to take on a referral depending on your workload at the time. However, we would ask that you would continue to provide psychological treatment to a client whom you take on until such time that treatment termination becomes ap- propriate. While this may be short term, it could also involve sporadic involvement over the course of a few years. Each client’s needs will be different. We will attempt to direct referrals based on any specific expertise or preferences you might have to treat children, adults, couples, or families.
Should you choose to volunteer, ALS BC would send you some materials about the disease and can act as a useful resource for information. There is also a symposium in November each year, including workshops for psychological treatment providers, that you can attend. All of your expenses (travel, accommodation, and meals) would be covered. In addition, I am always available for discussion or to address any questions you might have, as are the other psycho- logical treatment providers.
