About Maria

I obtained a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of the Free State in South Africa. After moving to Canada in 1997, I registered with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors as well as British Columbia Association of School Psychologists. I completed the Indigenous Cultural Safety training and is a FNHA provider as well as a CVAP ( Crime Victim Services ) and ICBC provider.

I worked as School Psychologist for School District #22 in Vernon for 14 years before retiring from that position to pursue my passion of private counselling with individuals. I have been counselling private clients part time in my practice since 2009. I believe that life can be experienced abundantly, in triumph and tribulation. I am passionate about walking alongside with you to restore broken relationships within yourself and with others.

I have have personal experience as well as work experience with attachment injuries, trauma, chronic pain , anxiety, depression and relationship issues. I am currently learning more about traumatic and acquired brain injurues. I use a variety of modalities tailored to your personal needs and preferences including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Focusing Orientated Therapy (FOT) and Person Centered Therapy . I can explore with you the barriers for moving forward and guide to to find your own working strategies to manage negative emotions and thoughts, using a variety of strategies.
