About Monika

Hello, my name is Monika Ulrich. I am registered clinical counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (registration # 4006).

I have worked for over 15 years at various social service agencies with a primary focus in the fields of substance abuse and mental health. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Certificate in Substance Abuse Counselling, and finally a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Through my work experience and education, I have gained an understanding of individuals unique processes and developed an ability to support people in making meaningful change. It is my goal to provide a space where you can work through the issues you are feeling challenged by or are unsure how to navigate; to give you room to explore and understand what has brought you to counselling.

In my practice, I focus on supporting each person by acknowledging their unique experiences and their struggles with life circumstances while inviting them to explore new ways of coping. It is my belief that connecting people to their bodies, using techniques such as breathing, noticing sensations, and noticing how sensations are linked to feelings often provides insight. I see the body as a powerful resource which can assist in working through emotions.

There are many ways to approach a counselling session, some of the therapeutic practices I use are solution focused, cognitive behavioural therapy, emotion focused, self regulation therapy, and mindfulness. My training and background, allows me to support people in making sense of their experience and gaining resources to navigate their lives.
