About Sophia

After many years of work in large organizations, corporate structures and communities, my approach has evolved to understanding the importance of nature + nurture in healing from trauma and challenges to positive mental health.

A combination of working in emergency and crisis-response settings, unique constellation of training and lived experience supports my niche relating to and working with first responders, emergency management professionals, health practitioners and trauma survivors,

I have provided years of multi-faceted mental health and wellness support to professional provincial staff at the Emergency Management (EMBC) program, government Ministries, Regional Districts and Regional Health Authorities and corporate clients. Customized support has been delivered through virtual/phone/in-person 1:1 counselling, psycho-educational workshops, small counselling team sessions, critical event debriefings, and consultation to Leadership

I work with clients along their life journey and my approach is flexible, positive and reflective of client needs rather than being rigidly tied to any one approach.
I am trained in nature therapy, suicide awareness and suicide prevention (through ASIST, CIST, safeTALK), Traumatic Loss + Grief, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), collaborative, single session therapy and have considerable education in seeking to understand Indigenous ways of being.

Serving human kind is important to me. I volunteer as part of the BC Disaster Psychosocial team member for over 9 years (deployed throughout BC and Alberta, including responding to the catastrophic fire and flood events of 2021 in Lytton, Kamloops, Merritt and First Nations communities), and am trained to facilitate Psychological First Aid (PFA) and the Wellness Exchange programs.

I am a proud Metis with maternal roots in the Nlaka’pamux Nation and am humbled to be serving as Clinical Counsellor for the Fort Rupert (Kwakiutl First Nation) community. I was the first Crisis Counsellor for the First Nations Health Authority deploying to Indigenous communities (rural, remote, and urban) throughout Vancouver Island.
