About Sandy
Although not all of the last 30+ years of Sandy’s professional career has been spent exclusively practicing therapy, Sandy has passionately helped children, families, couples and corporations through her work as an educator, therapist, consultant and ardent volunteer in the area of Mental Health. Sandy develops a therapeutic relationship with her clients that is respectful, and collaborative. She helps clients focus on creating solutions while intensely listening and understanding the individual’s thoughts and behaviours within the context of their culture and unique story.
Specializing in couples and relationship challenges, Sandy can specifically help clients deal with issues related to areas such as separation and divorce, infidelity and affairs, communication difficulties between partners, sexuality and gender issues (including LGBTQ2S+) and family conflict. Sandy also consults in the area of family business dynamics including succession planning and inter-generational transfer of family run businesses.
Sandy has a Master’s Degree from San Diego State University, and she completed her post-Master’s clinical training in Marriage and Family Therapy in Calgary, Alberta. In addition to being a member of BCACC, she is also an Affiliate Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT-#72281) and an Affiliate Member of the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT-#2017302). Sandy also holds Permanent Professional Teaching Certificates in both B.C. and Alberta.
Sandy works full time in private practice and has evening and week-end appointments available. In addition, Sandy recognizes that couples or partnerships that are in crisis often can not find the help they require by attending one hour counselling sessions. As a result, Sandy offers “Saturday- Intensive Couples Therapy” which is a 3 hour session. During that time, couples will have the ability to delve deeper into their relationship with each other and Sandy will help deconstruct underlying patterns of conflict and unresolved issues. The goal of the Intensive is to come to a better understanding of what needs to stay the same in the relationship, and what needs to change.
In addition, Sandy has a limited number of sliding fee scale spaces available for individuals, families and university/college students experiencing economic hardship. Conveniently located in the Landmark 3 Building, all counselling inquiries, or to book an appointment can be made in the strictest of confidence by calling 250-212-6001. Calls will be returned within 24 hours.
