About Catriona

I work with a variety of clients, but primarily work with young adults ages 20-40 on the issues of this stage of development, including dating and relationships, marital challenges, defining career and developing future goals. I also work with parents who are concerned about their young adult children. I am able to help clients who are dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, substance use, career, sexual or financial challenges, or grief and loss. My goals are to help clients understand and reframe problems, reduce anxieties and open up lines of communication. And, who knows? Maybe even to find a little humour on the way!

My Masters is in social and behavioural health sciences, with four years of advanced post-graduate clinical training in Bowen Family Systems Therapy and post graduate training in parent coaching. I have also completed education in mindfulness, pain education, the gut-brain axis, and concussion management.

Whether seeing individuals, couples or families, I always apply a family systems theoretical lens to my work, which is solution-focused and can be short- or long-term, depending on client goals. Family systems thinking offers a very different way of considering and dealing with the difficulties that life brings. It allows us to take responsibility for what we can, without the need to place blame. I find that this approach empowers my clients to better define themselves and reach their goals, no matter how great or small.

Clients often say they are grateful for the insightful, nonjudgmental, open and sometimes humorous relationship we are able to create together and tell me that I am able to explain complex ideas in a way that they can understand. I like to believe that even though therapy can be hard work, it can also be fun and should definitely be rewarding!
