About Martha

My approach is holistic, I believe that humans were built for connection. So I work to improve your relationships with your partner, family, friends and most significantly yourself.
I have a master’s in Counselling Psychology From Yorkville University of Toronto. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) by EMDRIA. I am registered with B.C. Association for Clinical Counsellors and The CPCA. I have almost three decades of experience.
My practice is informed by a variety of counselling methodologies such as CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, EMDR, Attachment Theory, EFT, Internal Family system, Somatic Experiencing, Anger management, etc. This training enables me to work effectively with clients in high-stress employment, community-based settings. As well as with individuals and couples as a crisis debriefing and trauma care therapist.
I take the time to help you figure out your unique place in the world. I offer compassionate guidance in moving from distress to a more vital, easeful life. I provide a caring, knowledgeable, and respectful therapeutic space to individuals, families and couples of all ages and walks of life. I believe we intrinsically seek understanding, integrity in relationships, emotional healing and a renewed sense of wellness. The need to belong and feel connected is vital to our mental health. I believe that people function best when there is harmony between body, mind and spirit. I work creatively to help you establish a balanced and meaningful life.
Through almost three decades in private practice, it has been my privilege to encourage and guide people on their quest for emotional health.
My areas of expertise are anxiety, Toxic relationships, Trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, GAD and anxiety-related issues., also couples and family systems. My unique approach is collaborating with you in each session and being mindfully present while moving you closer to what you want and need. Together, we will build your capacity to move through the painful influences of different challenges, creating space for connection and meaning. We work to uncover the patterns that have been affecting your life, as you learn to move beyond your current limitations.
Are your thoughts and emotions tangled up? If you struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, work conflict, have difficulty creating new habits, experience low mood, or high stress? I see therapy as the crossroads between feeling stuck and finding new solutions to move forward in life.
I have extensive experience serving First Responders, front-line workers (paramedics, police, etc.) diagnosed with PTSD. I am also trained in Critical Incident Stress, Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and Trauma Therapy. Much of my work has been with anxiety and depression, trauma survivors, and substance misuse. I have helped many clients with issues regarding loss and grief, work/life balance, life transition, personal growth, residential school trauma, and relationships.
I have significant knowledge of and experience with First Nations communities and the unique challenges they face. I am a contracted service provider to many EAPs and other government programs including First Nations (FNHA), Nisgaa, ICBC, Physician Health Program (PHP), and E4Health.
My services are also covered by many extended health benefits plans
I look forward to hearing from you,
Martha Isabel MACP, RCC. RPC. EMDR-CT.
