Created in 2021, the Joan Campbell Award honors the impact of BCACC Past President Joan Campbell and her immense contributions to the Association and counselling profession as a whole. The award is given annually in the amount of $1,000 and is funded from annual corporate and individual donations.
Covering BCACC application and membership fees, criminal record check, and insurance for the first year of membership, the award will facilitate enhanced access to the counselling profession from under-served communities and support eligible candidates experiencing financial hardship who would otherwise not be able to join the profession.
More than one award may be given each year depending on the amount of money raised.
The award is primarily for new member applicants who would otherwise not be able to afford to join the Association. If more applications are received than the money available in any particular year, priority will be given to enhancing public service. Other criteria will be utilized to ensure that the new Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) are well suited for underserved communities and regions.
About Joan Campbell
Joan Campbell was a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors for almost 30 years. During that time she devoted thousands of volunteer hours to the association to help further the profession of counselling. Joan was a dedicated and skilled counsellor and volunteer and has left her mark on so many areas of the Association.
Her calm, strong leadership skills, her kindness and her grace are sorely missed in our community. We hope to honour Joan’s memory through this award.
