About Elizabeth

Liz Kay, MSW, RSW has been involved in the counseling field since 2008. She has extensive experience working with transitional age youth (15- 25 years old) with substance use and other mental health concerns. Her clinical skills have been informed by her work a variety of settings including residential treatment, outreach, non-profit agencies and provincial health. Liz has experience working as a Clinic Head at BC Children’s Hospital Provincial Youth Concurrent Disorders Program supporting assessments, providing treatment and educating students and mental health professionals around the Province.

Liz has been described as a warm, dedicated and collaborative clinician. She believes that the people she works with, although struggling, have tremendous capacity for growth. Knowing that individuals may be reluctant to be entering counselling, Liz works on developing and maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship. Liz is trained and proficient in a variety of evidence based treatment approaches including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).

Liz primarily works with youth and young adults age 14- 30 in the areas of:

Qualifications: BA, BSW, and MSW from the University of British Columbia. Registered social worker with the BC College of Social Workers (#10904). Registered Clinical Counsellor (#16928)

Fees:

Free 15 minute phone consultation offered

60 minute session fee:$160

Payment in the form of cash, cheques, or email transfer is due at the end of each session unless other arrangements have been made. Please note that 2 days notice is required to cancel a scheduled appointment to avoid being charged the full session fee.

Some third party payment plans such as Extended Health Care Insurance and Employee/Family Assistance Programs pay partial or total coverage for counselling services. Please follow up with your benefits plan/health care provider.
