About Jo
As a counsellor, I support individuals and couples who are are navigating life’s many difficult realities, helping them to process and cope with what is happening. I work from a feminist, anti-colonial perspective, seeking to dismantle hierarchies of oppression and power. I encourage my clients to examine the stories they believe about themselves and the world, unpicking tangled threads of identity and beliefs, and rewriting the narrative into one which serves their good. I believe self compassion and accepting our humanity is foundational to our mental well being.
I believe that every human has inherent worth and the capacity to live a fulfilling life. I work with my clients to help them process the issues that are causing distress, focussing on the stories clients tell about themselves and the world which can keep them stuck in unhelpful patterns. My view is that we are not broken, we are simply human.
I support adult individuals and couples with a variety of issues and have particular expertise in helping women who are subject to domestic abuse and coercive control in their intimate partnerships. I am also a trained When Love Hurts facilitator.
