About Amanee
I ground my principles and work in my identity as a racialized Muslim woman. I am a firm believer that equity and justice are critical for meaningful, systemic change. I am driven by my values and principles and am committed to supporting the wellbeing of children, youth, and families in my community.
Although I work with many folks from all types of backgrounds, I specialize in working with BIPOC, racialized, newcomer, and Muslim communities. I bring an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens to my counselling practice, which is rooted in existential and relational approaches to therapy. I’ve also worked a great deal with children, youth, and families using expressive play therapy and trauma-focused modalities.
Like many, my work in the mental health field is not purely a professional endeavour. I am privileged to bring an intersectional lens to this work, with personal lived experience, academic studies and training, and over a decade of professional experience in the mental health field.
I have worked in the social services field for over a decade and am currently in a leadership role in the non-profit sector. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from SFU, as well as a Master’s of Public Health from SFU. I began my career as a youth worker supporting immigrants, refugees, ethno-cultural, and racialized individuals, families, and communities. I am also a certified mental health first aid instructor and enjoy designing and delivering mental health workshops and trainings.
I also serve on the Board of FRAYME and previously served as a member and chair of the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s Youth Advisory Council, supporting mental health policy and practice across Canada.
To address different accessibility needs, I offer in-person, virtual, and phone counselling services. If you require other accommodations to be able to access counselling supports, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
