About Katie

Accepting new clients: Couples + Individual Counselling in Campbell River, BC

Individual Counselling:

I approach therapy with sensitivity and compassion, providing a non-judgmental space for you to share your story, learn more about yourself, and explore what’s going on beneath the surface. We can work together to help you understand where you’re getting stuck, and find ways to move forward towards change, healing and growth. My approach places emphasis on identifying, exploring and understanding your emotions – leading to greater emotional awareness, self-understanding, and an increased ability to manage anxiety, stress, and whatever comes your way in life. I integrate attachment science in my practice; exploring attachment patterns and dynamics can help you gain insight into how these impact your relationships, and help you to foster a healthier connection with yourself and those around you.

Couples Counselling:

I love working with couples! I am in awe of how much impact a healthy, loving, secure and supportive relationship can have on our lives. Research tells us that healthy adult attachment has positive effects on self-image, stress management, recovery from trauma, and mental and physical health. Having a strong, healthy relationship can help us to pursue our goals and create meaning in our lives. I work using evidence-based couples therapies that emphasize enhancing emotional connection, improving communication, working through conflict, and increasing respect, affection and intimacy between partners.

Parents + Parents-to-be:

I have Bringing Baby Home Educator training in supporting couples navigating the transition to parenthood. Research shows that 67% of couples experience a decrease in relationship satisfaction in the first year after baby arrives. While having a new baby and growing your family can be an amazing experience, it is inevitable that couples will also experience increased stress, sleep deprivation, new division of labour in the household, and significantly less time for their relationship. Through therapy, you can learn about ways to remain connected to your partner despite these challenges, and to navigate this transition as a team.

Babies-in-arms are welcome in my counselling space. I also have a baby swing available for babies to relax in.
