About Malahat

I see therapy as a journey of self awareness and liberation. As adults, we often assume we should have life figured out. Yet, we?re caught off guard when overwhelmed or lost. Truth is that life is intricate, and few of us possess a manual for navigating its complexities and confusions. Any combination of difficult life circumstances, unprocessed childhood hardships, not-yet-developed skills and unexamined values usually play a role in the underlying setup of our confusion and overwhelm.

My work as a therapist is to help you untangle these complications and bring you closer to the core of your authentic self, and free your life energy to flow naturally like a gentle and steady river. This approach applies to any specific issue such as a relationship or career issue or general emotions of dissatisfaction, overwhelm, pain and anxiety.

My psychological lens is predominantly psychoanalytic and attachments based, however I am continually expanding my perspective and I am informed by cognitive theory and recent findings in neuroscience as well as some social theories.

My focus is less on symptoms and symptom relief, but rather on expanding understanding of situations and contexts and underlying emotional and social dynamics that shape our reality and symptoms.

Our sessions are collaborative in the sense that you lead the session and decide what we want to focus. Most sessions start as a consultation to help with your situation, or challenge. We start with understanding your situation and challenges and move deeper to understand psychological mindsets and challenges that may be underlying your situation.

I offer both short term and long term therapy. Shorter term therapy is useful to throw a light on situations and get you closer to your emotions and reality of your situation. Longer term therapy allows accessing the underlying setups of our beliefs and emotions and working them through to overcome and transform them or accept what cannot be changed.
