About the position:

Clinical Counsellor .8 FTE (28 hours a week)

 This posting period runs from January 8, 2026 – January 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. and is an internal and external posting. It is a union position, requiring union membership enrolment, and follows the Community Social Services General Services Collective Agreement.

The Clinical Counselor works from a family-focused child centered philosophy providing clinical counselling services to clients using a culturally safe and trauma informed approach after gathering information and assessing family functioning issues. The Counselor receives internal referrals for families of children who receive Starbright services.

The Counselor develops and implements family-based interventions within program guidelines. Included in the scope of practice are services as a one-on-one counsellor for individual parents, parent and child counselling, and sibling counselling when appropriate. The clinical counsellor works collaboratively with therapists and consultants from other Starbright disciplines in support of the families. In concert with other relevant individuals, the counselor will coordinate/facilitate educational and supportive services to meet family needs.

Hours of operation

Starbright hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hours worked are assigned based on client need, typically between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Vacation and statutory holidays are paid as outlined in the Collective Agreement. In addition, the agency closes for two weeks during the holiday season so staff may enjoy time with their families.

Compensation and Benefits

The rate of pay for this position has a range starting from $44.54 per hour up to $54.52 per hour. A benefit package will be provided in accordance with the Collective Agreement. Benefit packages currently include Extended Health, Dental, AD&D, Group Life, Long-Term Disability and an Employee Family Assistance Program. Upon qualification, the premiums are 100% paid by the Employer, and dependents may also be included if criteria are met. There are twelve paid sick days a year that are pro-rated as per the Collective Agreement. Regular employees also join the Municipal Pension Plan when qualified. This requires both an employee contribution and an employer contribution as pre-determined by the Pension Plan Board.

Summary of the qualifications and experience needed for this position:

  • A master’s degree in clinical counselling, psychology or a related field, as well as supporting education in the early childhood education field.
  • Meets eligibility criteria to become a member of the BC Clinical Counseling Association
  • Two (2) years of recent related experience.
  • Background in, or a willingness to learn, Theraplay and Filial Therapy.
  • Experience in facilitating, or willingness to learn to facilitate, Circle of Security sessions.
  • Valid current BC Driver’s License / access to reliable transportation properly insured for business use
  • Employment in this position is contingent upon successful Criminal Record Check clearance. As per the Criminal Records Review Act, “Individuals working with children or vulnerable adults directly or potentially have unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults must authorize a Criminal Record Check for their employer or authorized organization.”
