About Ryan

Most people seek out therapy when their mental health starts to seriously interfere with their lives – whether this is work performance, relationships, health, or the ability to enjoy life. Often I see patients who have sought out therapy before and are looking for more than just someone to ‘talk to’. They’re looking to rapidly and seriously address the problems in their life that are getting in their way.

I have 17 years experience across the mental health and health care field. I provide direct, evidence based therapy for patients who need a specialized approach and want to change the direction of their lives. My background as a paramedic and experience in crisis intervention and high acuity care means we don’t spend months exploring the problem. We map the mechanics of your anxiety or problems, identify the behavioral loops holding you back, and use proven protocols to get your life back on track.

The role of the therapist is as a guide – to be competent and knowledgeable in a very specific domain – how to have a life not be ruined by mental health problems. With this in mind, the role of the patient is not passive, and there’s more to it than just showing up. Therapy is a collaborative process, and – when mental health concerns are present, it’s the job of the therapist to provide specific and directed guidance. It’s up to the patient to follow through. Most sessions end with specific goals and actions to accomplish in between – things like practicing new ways of reaction and feeling, behavioural and lifestyle goals, breathing or meditation practices, or new ways to interact in relationships. Change is hard – and we can layer in practices and techniques that make change easier. Mental health can seem incredibly complicated, people seek out specialists when they want to talk to someone who has seen it before.
