About Armaan
I understand that engaging in counselling (psychotherapy) can be an intimidating process, as it requires individuals to exercise vulnerability and share daunting emotional, physical, and social struggles. Successful psychotherapy is contingent on individuals’ willingness to acknowledge, navigate, and move through life’s numerous obstacles. Undoubtedly, this is a challenging endeavour.
I view counselling as a highly relational process, and I aspire to create a therapeutic environment that is warm, confidential, and non-judgmental. Clients will always be the experts of their narrative, and collaboration is paramount.
Operating from a client-centered, biopsychosocial, and culturally-sensitive framework, I employ the following modalities:
– Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
– Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
– Solution Focused (Brief) Therapy (SFT)
– Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
– Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
I practice utilizing an eclectic approach, as I draw from a combination of modalities to provide individualized care to my clients.
Being a male counsellor, of Indian descent, I have a passion for cultural counselling, and I aim to incorporate individuals’ cultural and ethnic backgrounds into my practice. I also have extensive experience working with Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, & Inuit) youth, as I have worked for a delegated aboriginal agency.
I can vouch for the benefits of therapy, as it has been instrumental in addressing personal, and complex, lived experiences.
I am committed to my professional development via engagement in continuing education courses and regular supervision with colleagues.
Outside of the therapeutic space, I enjoy hiking, tennis, gaming, model-building, and spending time with family, friends, and my pup. I also enjoy traveling, as I find this culturally fulfilling.
I look forward to working with you and embarking on a journey of healing.
Warm Regards,
Armaan Ratra (B.Sc. I M.A. I R.C.C.)
