About Carolynn
Receiving a complaint, anticipating that a client may make one, or working with a client who is angry with you can be an unsettling and isolating experience for a counsellor. It can bring uncertainty about what to say, what to document, how to respond, and where the boundaries lie between ethical obligations, legal requirements, professional standards, and your own clinical judgment. Even experienced clinicians can find themselves questioning decisions they would normally feel confident making. I provide consultation, support, and formal supervision to counsellors navigating these situations, with attention to both the immediate concerns and the broader clinical and professional context. I am currently accepting new clients who believe a complaint may be forthcoming, who have already received a complaint, or who are working through a consent agreement with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
I graduated with my MA in Counselling Psychology from UBC following a career teaching at the high school level. I have counselled those with intensive behaviour, or severe mental health (Category H in the school system) and was the family outreach therapist for the Abbotsford School District’s Social Development program K-12. I have worked for the former President of Anxiety Canada in her personal research lab at UBC, served as a member of the Board for the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and as the VP for Region 5 for BCACC, and been part of the BCTF Wellness Team where I travelled the province speaking to schools, primarily about Complex Trauma and Compassion Fatigue. I am currently the Director of Lavender Counselling, which is a group practice focused on relational therapy and complex trauma. I am part of the Clinical Team for Wounded Warriors Canada delivering the following group therapy programs: COPE (Couples Overcoming PTSD Everyday) and TRP 1 & 2 (Trauma Resiliency Program), and am a co-developer of the SRP (Spousal Resiliency Program).
I work with a broad range of client issues including PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, postpartum transition, self harm, suicidal ideation, self esteem, emotion regulation, life transitions, and the effects of childhood emotional neglect in adults.
I have trained with Dr. Les Greenberg, the primary developer of EFT individual therapy and an originator of EFT couples therapy. I have trained extensively in counsellor ethics and have completed DBR, Level 2, and EMDR Basic Training. I look forward to hearing from you.
