About David
Hello! My name is Dave and I have a PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. For over ten years, I have worked as a counsellor in private practice. I have also worked with public institutions, such as the Vancouver School Board and Simon Fraser University. In 2020, my practice went virtual and I currently only see clients who are interested in online therapy.
I love to learn about diverse contexts and people, and consequently have spent over a decade living overseas, mainly in Asia and South America.
My approach to counselling is compassionate, integrative and relational. The foundation of my approach is existential-humanistic, and I also draw on more contemporary approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to help my clients face their struggle or concern.
I have experience working with individuals on a wide range of concerns such as:
Self-worth
Anxiety and depression
Shame
Traumatic experiences
Grief and loss
Identity concerns (e.g., related to sexual orientation and/or gender identity,)
Life transitions (e.g., moving to a new city or country; entering a new phase of life)
Cross-cultural issues (e.g., for expats or immigrants)
Deep existential concerns, such as death, uncertainty, dread, isolation, and meaning/purpose
Don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. It can be really hard to take that first step. I know — I’ve been there too.
