About Ginna
I am the owner and operator of Sprout Counselling – a clinical counselling and psychotherapy practice. I extend a warm welcome to folks of all ages and intersecting identities, including children, youth, couples and families of any composition. I also offer clinical supervision and consultation.
For a more detailed look at the “what and how,” please visit www.sproutcounselling.ca
You may have specific mental health or substance use concerns you would like to address or perhaps you’re not sure what’s amiss, but something doesn’t feel quite right. You relationship may be out of alignment or perhaps your child or a family member is struggling and you would like to know how to support them. You might have long-standing or more recent concerns. They may not have a direct cause or they may be related to a pivotal or traumatic event or loss. No matter what you are struggling with or where you are on your journey, we can walk forward together.
We may be able to address some challenges directly, through the application of strategies and training. We may be able to affect change by expanding awareness and gaining understanding. And if you feel your experiences are reflective of something deeper, or even “the tip of the iceberg,” we can work together through the layers in a way that is safe, structured (contained) and at your pace.
Choosing a counsellor can be a bit of a process and you need to know what you’re getting into before you really begin. To give you the option to test the waters and ask any initial questions you might have, I offer a 15 minute free consultation by phone or online. You can book this with me directly or you can go to my website to book online.

A little more ABOUT ME…
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have over 20 years of experience providing clinical assessment and treatment as well as psychotherapy in a variety of therapeutic contexts, with folks of diverse identities and backgrounds.
Much of my clinical experience comes from working hospitals and community psychiatric clinics, though also with non-profit agencies and in schools. In contrast, for the past few years, I have been running my own private practice. I offer services for folks of all ages, including children and youth and provide individual, couples and family counselling.
A significant percentage of my therapeutic practice is dedicated to trauma work, including responding to crises and supporting the process of living with the impacts of traumatic events, generational and complex trauma and post traumatic stress (PTSD). I have significant experience offering services to survivors of residential schools, adults and youth with experiences of severe mental illness and addiction, as well as individuals, families and communities living with the effects of systemic violence, marginalization and stigma. My practice is grounded in the principles of Recovery, Harm Reduction and Social Justice.
Ways we can WORK TOGETHER…
I have certifications and training in a number of therapeutic modalities, which I integrate to create a unique therapeutic engagement that tailors to the needs of the person (or people) I’m working with. I commonly utilize approaches from Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural (DBT), Narrative, Emotion Focused (EFIT, EFFT), Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic and Play Therapies. My training as a yoga instructor gives us the option to incorporate mindful movement, breath work and techniques in relaxation and mental focus into our work together.
If possible, we can incorporate nature into the therapeutic process. This can mean going for a walk (walk-and-talk) or finding a quiet bench in a park to sit and chat. With (not just) kids, this can mean exploring the nature through play. Integral to this experience is the awareness of self in connection to nature, where the self is simply “being,” observing, or participating in (influencing and being influenced by) the natural environment.
I view any therapeutic approach as a means of gaining new insights and opening up possibilities for alternative ways of being and engaging with our lives. I view the therapeutic relationship and the space of trust we create between us as the medium of change.
