About Kady
Hi, nice to meet you, I’m Kady (she/her)!
I know how hard it can be to find a counsellor. It took me three tries before I found the person I felt comfortable to be myself with, trust in, confide in. Because of my own experience looking for a counsellor, I hope to share in this bio information about who I am as a therapist to help you decide if we would be a good fit together.
I approach therapy relationally and collaboratively. This means that I see us as a team; we are in this together. You are the main character and I am the supporting character. In the counselling room, I show up with warmth, humour, compassion and curiosity, making it a space where you can show up with all of the different parts of yourself. It’s a privilege to walk next to my clients throughout their journeys.
While I see clients with a variety of concerns, my main areas of focus include:
-Understanding oneself, self esteem, self worth
-Processing trauma
-Identity issues
-Anxiety
-Struggles that particularly face the Asian and mixed race community
-Working with youth and young adults
I am biracial, Chinese/Scottish and a woman of colour. It was a journey to learn more about my heritage and develop a connection and appreciation for it, and now these identities represent how I move through the world.
Outside of the counselling room, you can find me swimming in any body of water, laughing with friends (I’m the one laughing the loudest), reading a romcom and singing Taylor in the car (I’m in my Lover Era).
If it’s of interest, I mainly work from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and integrate with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Emotion Focused Therapy and Attachment Theory. I work to be as trauma informed, culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive as possible in my approach.
