About Leena
Starting counseling is like driving. Like driving different vehicles, it may take time to determine which counsellor and counseling modality is the best fit for you. I sit next to you in the passenger seat and ensure you are safe, heard, validated, and supported as you drive.
As your counsellor, I am curious, kind, empathetic, and nonjudgmental. I want to learn about your life experiences, thoughts, and feelings and where you feel you need support. You are the expert of your life, not me. I bring my years of experience, training, and knowledge to each session. Together, we work towards achieving your goals in a safe and confidential space.
In counselling, I support you and work with you at your pace. I share strategies and tools designed to help you feel more in control. I support you process and heal from painful and traumatic experiences. We explore some of the thoughts and feelings behind your reactions. Finally, we unpack how past experiences impact your present-day and relationships.
I am trained in several modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally focused therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). When working with you, I draw on these modalities to ensure your goals are met and you feel validated, supported, and seen.
I have over seven years of experience, and my career as a counsellor started in 2015 in Australia, where I supported women who had experienced domestic and family violence. In 2017, in New Zealand, I supported children and youth on a range of issues, including self-harm, building self-esteem, anxiety, and depression.
In 2019, I worked as a school counsellor for two years at a First Nations school in Lytton, British Columbia. In 2021, I worked as a counselling supervisor and a stopping the violence counsellor for a not-for-profit organisation. In 2022, I worked as a sexual assault support services counsellor, supporting young people who had experienced sexual assault and abuse.
I received my undergraduate degree in History from Queen Mary University, my Master’s degree in Social Work from London Metropolitan University, and my Master’s in Law from Birkbeck University.
