About Matthew
My name is Matthew Lutz. I hold a Master of Counselling Psychology and came to the field of therapy after more than a decade in human resource management and not-for-profit leadership. My professional background has given me deep insight into human dynamics, relational systems, and the emotional burdens people carry into their work, families, and communities.
I chose to become a therapist because I wanted to help people again. I have personally experienced the profound impact of therapy, where feeling understood and not alone can be truly transformative. I’ve always been fascinated by people’s stories, and now I have the privilege of accompanying clients through pain, insight, and growth. What I consider most meaningful is offering a steady, nonjudgmental presence and witnessing the slow, powerful process of change unfold.
My approach to therapy is both integrative and client centered. I use a mix of therapeutic styles, combining deeper exploratory work with practical, skills focused strategies to support clients in a way that fits them best. My style is collaborative, calm, and flexible, meeting each client at their current stage of development.
I see therapy as a shared process when it comes to goals and progress. Early sessions focus on understanding what has brought someone to therapy and what meaningful change might look like. From there, we create goals that may be practical or more exploratory. I check in on progress regularly and encourage clients to notice shifts in how they think, feel, and respond in daily life, valuing not only symptom relief but also growth in self awareness, confidence, and alignment with personal values.
I work with adults, couples, and adolescents. I’m particularly passionate about supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship challenges, identity development, grief, and life transitions. I’m also interested in modern stressors such as technology overuse, productivity pressures, and emotional disconnection in today’s fast paced world.
Core values that guide my work include respect, honesty, patience, and a calm, grounded presence. I aim to create an emotionally safe space where people feel understood, even when sharing their most vulnerable experiences. Healing looks different for everyone; sometimes it’s a leap, sometimes it’s an inch forward, and I honour both.
A typical first session with me focuses on connection. As we begin building a therapeutic relationship, I offer warmth and a touch of humour. We’ll discuss your goals and reasons for seeking support, review paperwork and expectations, and start creating a space that feels safe and steady. I offer in-person sessions from a private office, as well as secure virtual sessions through a compliant platform.
