About Miranda
I am so grateful your journey has led you here. Welcome.
Whether you are a young adult or elder, interested in individual or partnered counselling, I can help you manage stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, and pain; improve your relationships; navigate grief and loss; or become better friends with yourself. I enjoy working with people of diverse backgrounds to situate problems in systems of influence, unveiling your inner resources by collaborating with you to connect your values and interests with your goals for meaningful transformation and life management.
As your counsellor, I believe my main job is to help reveal to you the possibilities you have yet to see by connecting the dots of your story in a new way. I think of our work together like seeing a constellation in the night sky for the first time; even if it was hidden from you, it was always there and once you see it, you are not likely to forget it. In this way, we work together to reveal a new but authentic way of living that was always deep inside you.
We do this by co-creating a warm and safe environment imbued with curiosity. I take an eclectic therapeutic approach, using evidence-based models (e.g., Narrative Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, Existential Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Internal Family Systems, etc.) to inform our work, integrating tools like grounding, body-awareness, mindfulness, and humour to tailor the therapy to your needs.
I hold a BA in religious studies and history from the University of Victoria, and a Master of Counselling degree from City University of Seattle in Canada (RCC #20262). I have years of experience as a crisis support volunteer for youth, and have also volunteered extensively as a counsellor for university students and adults. I am open to working with people of all cultural backgrounds, gender expressions, sexual orientations, and relationship styles. I am also inspired by music, writing, philosophy, folk traditions, and nature, and recently completed a 10-day silent Vipassana meditation course. I look forward to learning what you are inspired by and what meaningful change looks like to you.
Please reach out if you have any questions about how I work or how I can help you.
