About Rod

Rod Horner is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) offering individual and couples counselling in the Greater Victoria area focusing on issues related to anxiety, depression, separation, divorce, grief, substance abuse, communication, goal setting, career changes, life transitions and more.
Rod uses a Solution-Focused method which sees the client as the expert in their life and uses a collaborative approach to identify goals and map a way forward. As well, Rod uses elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to measure progress towards those goals.
As a couples counsellor, Rod believes people are better together. Communication is the key. What is needed is the ability to communicate ones needs respectfully to a partner. However, Rod believes it is unproductive to stay in unfair, contemptuous, or toxic relationships where there is an unwillingness to change.
Before turning to counselling he had successful careers in television and public affairs. During his time working in television he was responsible for major event coverage and also worked as a reporter and assignment editor. Growing up he worked in lumber mills on Vancouver Island.
Clients describe Rod as warm, caring, and easy to work with. They say his lived experience is invaluable in providing perspective on their present challenges. Rod enjoys travel, reading, being part of a community choir, working out, and the pleasure and challenges four children and seven grandchildren bring.
Real success occurs when there is a strong alliance between client and counsellor. Please contact Rod to set up a free half-hour phone consultation.
