About Sarah
My name is Sarah (she/her) and I work as a counsellor in the tri-cities area both in person and virtually. I have over 20 years of experience from working in mental and physical health settings in addition to previous work as a first responder/Public safety personnel. I work with both youth and adults and have certification in occupation health by first responder health.
My educational background includes social work, child and youth care, and sociology in addition to psychology which has provided a rich understanding of integrative support. I have undertaken certified training in occupational awareness for first responders through first responder health. I believe in healing the whole body and I am guided by the approaches of cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and often add in many healing aspects of both narrative therapy and somatic healing practices.
My approach is trauma informed. I believe that having a safe environment with a safe person is a great starting point in figuring out how to feel more in control of thoughts, feelings and behaviour. I very much feel that it is in relationship that healing takes place.
I support clients to establish and reach their goals with a client centred, collaborative and culturally safe approach that recognizes that everyone comes to counselling with their own strengths which can be tapped into to invite change.
I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief and loss, OCD, ADHD, parenting and relationship struggles. I also provide counselling support for first responders and their families which can include PTSD and suicide bereavement. I support LGBTQ2+ individuals and their families.
