About Shannon
I am passionate about working with people who have experienced violence and trauma, those navigating creative and alternative life paths, and those wanting to connect deeper with their own desires and a fuller expression of themselves.
I endeavor to come from a place of deep compassion and understanding for the ways in which the world around us can impact our ability to be our most embodied and whole selves. I bring a justice lens to my counselling. I seek to see the ways that symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and challenges with communication, trust, and building relationships are responses to trauma, violence, harm, and oppression. I know that experiencing harm or feeling unaccepted for who you are by the world around you can be devastating experiences that can leave us feeling powerless.
It’s my hope to support you in exploring and connecting to your own power and desires, while finding creative and nurturing ways to integrate the harms you may have experienced. All of this helping to bring more joy, fulfillment, embodiment, and pleasure to your life.
Rooted in a deep belief in both individual and community capacity for healing and change my approach is centered in your own hopes, dreams, and agency. My work is both client-centered and trauma-informed. I has received training and education in somatic, relational, attachment, and response-based approaches, as well as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). These approaches can help people to connect with their own capacities and resources while gently exploring and integrating experiences of harm and trauma. I also has training and practice in integrating dreamwork into counselling and healing approaches both individually and in groups.
I completed a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria in 2018. I worked as both a crisis and long-term Stopping the Violence counsellor at the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre from 2017-2021 and am currently one of the counsellors at Peers Victoria Resources Society in Victoria. Most of my training and work experience has been in the areas of trauma, and in particular sexualized violence. I am a registered service provider with the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) and First Nations Health Authority (FNHA).
