About Shereen

* Please note: Currently accepting new clients. I welcome you to book a complimentary consult on my website.
My greatest professional desire is to help my clients untangle the complicated mix of factors that prevent them from being their authentic self. I’m passionate about helping clients integrate the impact of the difficult things they’ve experienced, repair dysfunctional family of origin wounds, and rebuild a happy and healthy life. I have over 20 years of experience working with couples, families, youth and adults on a variety of emotional and psychological concerns that include relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, personality disorders, body image, as well as career and workplace problems. My therapy style is warm, empathetic, and client-centered, which means, that I believe you the client is the expert in finding your answers and coming to resolutions
I use several evidence based treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing EMDR, dialectical-behaviour therapy (DBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT) and Gottman couples counselling techniques. I am a certified complex trauma professional and use integrative methods such as psychodrama, art, yoga and polyvagal theory to regulate the nervous system. My educational background includes a PhD from UBC and an MA from Southeast Missouri State University. I identify as a South-Asian/Middle-Eastern Muslim. Growing up I lived as a nomad on our planet, having lived in many countries internationally and finally settling as an immigrant in Canada 18 years ago. I am bilingual (English & Urdu/Hindi) and have conversational skills in Punjabi and Arabic.
What I offer you is a non-judgmental, safe trauma-informed and empowering space to explore and excavate deep emotions and memories that might be presenting as blocks in your life. In therapy, I will follow your moment-by-moment experience and be with you as you go to places in your mind that you may be afraid to trek alone. I will give you my undivided attention, hear you and try to understand your individual life experiences, while facilitating your efforts in regaining balance with yourself.
