About Susan
“When we are caught in our mind we cannot feel our own beingness”
I have always been interested in how the mind connects with the body and how our thinking, environment and early relationships can create emotional and even psychic pain. I have always been drawn to integrative practices like yoga and meditation, Buddhist psychology and somatic psychology. After 10 years of teaching mindfulness and yoga, working individually with students I knew I needed to gain more formal learnings in how to work with the relieving of suffering and so I researched a graduate school where these questions came together.
I obtained my Masters in Integral Counselling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (California), a certified E-500hr Registered yoga teacher and am a Certified Yoga, Mindfulness and Meditation teacher from Spirit Rock Meditation Center, CA.
I am dedicated to working with individuals, families and couples who are experiencing a range of emotional and behavioral concerns. Through client-centered sessions, I offer a practice that deeply focuses on a myriad of issues including, anxiety, PTSD, depression, trauma, and challenges with transitions in life stages, as well as finding purpose and searching for greater meaning and happiness. I seek to provide a space that is safe and supportive, where one can connect to and experience their deepest self, be listened to and validated.
My approach is compassionate, interactive, warm and collaborative. My therapeutic work is drawn from a variety of modalities and practices that incorporate mindfulness, guided imagery, experiential, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, (CBT), Internal Family Systems (level 1), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), EMDR, transpersonal & inquiry and trauma informed. Clients also may draw from somatic awareness strategies inspired from my many years as a yoga practitioner and teacher.
With experience working in a number of different settings including private practice, hospital, the public and private schools and in County clinics I have familiarity with all age groups and am skilled at modeling positive communication. My aim is help people establish good boundaries, foster relaxation and self -regulation, breed self -esteem, uncover strengths and use the body as vehicle to discover ease and the qualities of loving-kindness, compassion, wisdom, truth and forgiveness.
I looks forward to the opportunity of being present with you in your journey.
