About Yuka

Yuka is a BC Registered Clinical Counsellor who brings a wealth of training and experience working with school-aged children (5-12 years old) and their parents/guardians in culturally diverse settings. Yuka specializes in working with individuals and families on the issues of anxiety, depression, behavioural management, self-regulation, behavioural issues with ADHD, parent-child conflicts, family mediation/reunification, distress within family dynamics, stress management, life transition, parental support, and cross-cultural issues.

In addition to her child/parent counselling work, Yuka also works with international students and new immigrants of any age. Drawing from her experience as an international student at Vancouver Island University (VIU), Yuka is familiar with common cross-cultural struggles that students may encounter while learning in another country.

“Walking through the challenge together” is Yuka’s professional motto for her counselling work and to help her clients. Yuka’s therapeutic approaches are diverse: Attachment-based, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Collaborative Problem-Solving, Culturally sensitive, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Play Therapy, Mindfulness, Morita therapeutic, Strength-based, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselling. She strives to maximize the outcomes that each individual wishes by utilizing different types of therapeutic approaches to best suit her client’s need(s). Yuka believes acceptance and action-taking are crucial in making change in one’s life. She supports an individual’s difficulties by walking through the challenges with them.

Yuka completed her Bachelor of Arts in psychology at VIU before completing her Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Guidance Studies at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Master’s degrees in both Clinical Counselling at City University of Seattle and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselling at UBC. Prior to joining Campbell & Fairweather Psychology Group, Yuka gathered over 15 years of experience working as a mental health professional with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) in Surrey and both non-profit and private family services in Vancouver. She enjoyed working with children and their families by supporting their challenges.

Yuka is originally from Tokyo, Japan. She provides counselling services in both English and Japanese.
